The program Quick View which allowed you to look at folders by right clicking and then selecting Quick View was removed from WIN XP. I know there is a commercial product Quick View Plus which costs $35. and will work with XP. Does anyone know of a way to use the program Quikview.exe from
WIN98SE, so that Quick View can be used with XP?

Only one possibility here - find Quickview.exe in Windows Explorer, right click > Properties > Compatibility Mode and see if it will run as Win 98.

Otherwise a Google search for file viewer brings up plenty of hits - may be some freeware there.

    Quikview

I could transfer Quikview.exe to my XP machine and do what you recommend. However the great advantage of Quickview is that it is on the menu when I right click a file in Word Perfect or other word processing program. What do I have to do to the registry or otherwise to get it on the right click menu?

Try Quickview.exe on your XP m/c - it will either run in Compatability mode or it won't - and if it does the right click menu item may well appear this is a feature of the program, not a registry hack.

I used Quickview in Win 98 and am familiar with it.

Compatability mode is the only way to run a program which is not compatable with XP - and not all will run. You cannot force a program to run on a system for which it was not written.

Do the Google search - there may well be a program out there which does the same as Quickview - and is freeware. Go look :)

Had a search around and found Quickview Plus (unfortunately :))4.5 in my Archives - seems to work fine in XP although written for W95 and NT.

    Quickview

Many thanks Pete for all your e-mails and attachments.
It is curious that the file "Quikview" located in Windows/System/viewers is only about 46KB and the commerical product is >5MB. I'm sure that the installation program must be within one of the cab files in WIN 98SE and it will definitely work on XP. I'm sure that MS did not include it with XP because the creator wanted too much money to include it in XP and MS had to withdraw it from XP because there is a copyright issue. Is there a list somewhere of what is in those 98SE cab files? I vaguely remember seeing such a list and I think Winzip will show all the files but there are many cab files to open. Again many thanks.

Glad to hear that all arrived eventually.

If memory serves me right there was a cab file viewer in PowerToys for Win95/98.

If you manage to get the standard version running under XP please post here for the benefit of others.

    Quickview

    Pete,
Out of curiosity, when you put this program on your XP, does quickview now come up on the drop down menu when you right click a text file?
Also, what folder is quickview stored in on XP? Was there a default folder chosen by the installation or is it a windows folder? Thanks.
