    regedit/task manager won't stay open!

i have had this problem for awhile and just ignored it. but im trying to get rid of avirus(W32.spybot.worm) im fallowing the removal instruction from NORTON security responce...and one of the steps is to mess with regedit...and it wont stay open for more than a second.
*also when i do a system scan in safemode...it wont delete spybot...wth?(the step before regedit)
*plus im not sure if its even in safemode.. "When the Startup Menu appears, ensure that the Safe mode option is selected. In most cases, it is the first item in the list and is selected by default." is this correct?

i found a previous post about this but it didnt help me...
    so hep me!:(

Hi dixhammer - and Welcome to the Board :)

It sounds to me as if you are not in Safe Mode - if you were you would see a low resolution screen, probably with a black background with 'Safe Mode' in each corner.

To boot to safe mode switch on the PC and keep hitting F8

When a start up page appears 'Start Windows Normally' is highlighted by default.

Use the up arow key on your keyboard to move the highlight up to the top of the list 'Safe Mode' and press enter. In XP Safe mode is NOT selected by default.

Log on and you will get a warning screen advising you that you are in Safe Mode.

    Take it from there.

    You have me puzzled

What m/c are you running - desktop or laptop? - XP? - and please confirm you are hitting F8.

Anyway try selecting Hard drive and then keep on hitting F8.

If you're running 98 try the Ctrl Key instead of F8 - try this anyway.

Another thought - I think you are hitting F8 too early

On your m/c F8 appears to give the option to select the boot device (Esc on my laptop). Wait until any message re. boot order/device clears the screen and then hit F8 or Ctrl as the Bios loads.

Computer hasn't even started to load OS yet. This is a cmos/bios message asking what device you wish to boot from.

Select the HD as your boot device first and then immediately begin tapping the F8 key.

You don't say what OS you are running!

If 2k or xp and you are speaking of windows messenger then it can be done "Services ".

Or use this program XpAntiSpy (yes it works in all windows versions): http://www.webattack.com/get/xpantispy.shtml

On the other hand if it is MSN Messenger then rt click it in the system tray and tell it to not automatically start.

For the startup System Configuration Utility just click normal.
