Pretty sure this is the "Blaster D" virus at work. I had the exactly the same problem. The virus puts two new files on your system- one is a viirus version of svchost.exe which I am told has something to do with the clipboard function (as one of its list of responsibilities), the other is dllhost.exe. Update the virus definitions on your scanner and run it on your system. Mine were in files in the Winnt/System32/Wins. Deleted both files, then I had to do some registry editing. One of the better guys here might know this virus and be able to tell you exactly how to do that - I did a lot of websearching.

Anyways, the crux is you got a virus which is causing this, and running a scan on your system with the latest definitions will put you on the right path.

    Newt the crtl-v doesn't work.

I check that virus, i think u means this virus "W32.Blaster.D.Worm
", at the norton site i don't think it's the same thing u describe. I have norton corporate edition on the machine with live update offcourse, and it doens't detect any virus.
This computer had some virus a while ago, don't remember which ones, but i don't detect anymore virus....

This thing is really anoying, and i fogett to mension one more detail when i'm on the internet some links work and others don't.
    **** this strange thing

There is a chance you got a virus that disabled your onboard antivirus software. It can be there and look fine but not work.

Try a search for housecall virus and go to the page for the online scan using housecall. See if it will pick up any critters that your other app missed.

If not, check the symantec web site and get their blaster removal tool. It may find it and if so, will remove it.

If none of that helps, post back because something else may be broken but you need to make real sure you aren't infected before spending time trying other fixes.

My understanding is that SVCHOST.EXE controls the buffer on your system amongst other things. The clicking on links that won't work, and no control paste are exactly the probs I had. Happens cos there's no room on the buffer to drop the copied material, and beats me with the links not working but that happened too. Only advantage was that I did't get pop-ups a lot of the time:).

I got AVG Antivirus and it was the first thing that alerted me to the virus on my system. I removed it with the antivirus prog, but the probs continued. Did some searches on the web and found a page that had steps to remove the rotten thing and did it anyways cos it described the problems I was having. It involved deleting the two virus infected files (that were supposedly fine now, SVCHOST.EXE and DLLHOST.EXE in a folder called wins in the sytem32 file), editing the registry to delete references to the files I deleted, and running some microsoft patches. I am no pc expert, but this sounds just too much like the probs I was having to be a co-incidence. But if not, one of the gurus in here might know - if its not a virus then its definitely something wrong with the buffer on the system.

The links at Norton you have ben given probably do everything I did manually. Wish I had of known about them.
