    First thing that comes to mind is a virus program such as Norton, set to check floppy on shutdown. Open up the program properties and tell it to stop.

    ===============
    Wish I could give ya' an exact "single answer, Quick Fix" but floppy drives seeks are caused by several different reasons. Since this ones on a Shutdown, the most likely is the Virus Scanner Option.

    Other areas that may controls floppy drive seeks. Rather lengthy but pretty thorough:

    Scroll to section entitled, "Floppy (or other drive) Access Annoyance ".

    Agree with Ann - Norton could well be the culprit - especially earlier versions.

    The disable feature is tucked away in an obscure corner - can't remember where - check out the Help file.

    For the record. Right click on Norton icon. Select "Configure Norton Anti-Virus ". Click "AutoProtect" and in the drop-down menu select "Advanced ". Then uncheck Scan floppy disc in A: for Boot viruses when shutting down.
    Thanks again!
