I had to reformat my HD recently and reinstalled XP home. Ever since that something strange is happening.
When I create a new folder or cut a file and paste it somewhere else, or create a shortcut to a file somewhere else on my computer, I get an error message when I try to delete it. The error says "cannot delete 'short cut name' access is deniedâ€. Make sure disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use. I also cannot rename the item and get a similar message. I have this problem only when I create a new folder or cut and paste a folder or a file to another area, not if I copy a file or folder or work with existing items. That works fine.

I found out that if I reboot in safe mode and go to the properties of that item, than the security tab that I can take ownership of the file as administrator or under my own login name which has full rights, I than can manipulate the file or folder like I want to. I am the only user account on the computer
It gets to be a real pain to have to do that every time. Do you have any suggestions?
    Thank you.

It sounds like the user account you are using may be corrupt. That can cause this sort of behavior.

Take a look at This article for specifics on creating a new admin account. I know you aren't seeing the error they mention here but you could certainly still have the same problem.

Nice try Newt, but no cigar. It didn't work but I like the way you think.
    Thanks anyway. Any other ideas?
