when I installed a game to my computer, it said that I needed to make the color at least 16 bit and icnrease screen size for it to work properly. So I configured my desktop as instructed. After reboot, the game still did not work and my monitor screen color became unclear. I tried restoring the monitor color and screen size to what it was before but the screen appearance would not return to its original state. Why is this so?

Any light on this matter will be highly appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi ry1223

So how old is this PC,, Most older pc's come set at 16 bit and screen area at 848 by 480,
If it were me I would use a system restore point to before the game install,,, then set the
screen 848 by 480 or the next one up(1024X768), and high color 16 bit..

That way you could rule out the game,, By the way are you sure the PC meets the recommended requirments for the game.

    Regards
    Lonny

How Do i Restore System to Before Game Set-up?

    To Lonny Jones:

Thank you for your reply. I would like to know how do I "restore system to before game set-up "? Is it more than uninstall?

Re ur question, my pc was originally set at a lower than 16-bit. The game asked for 16-bit. So i set my pc to 16 bit. But the monitor worsened and still the game did not work. So I restored resolution to original but it did not return the original good condition of the screen.

Further advise would be much appreciated.

    Hello

    Uninstall that game first
click Start \Programs\Accessories\System Tools to system restore
and choose a date to when things worked properly
If you first date choosen doesnt fix the resolution go back in time further,
Then try adjusting the resolutions higher

    Let us know

    Restoration Unsucessful

Tried restoring to earlier dates. The reply was always:

    Restore was unsuccessful
Cannot be restored to system checkpoint.

I made sure no programs were running before each restore attempt but after reboot the answer was always the same.

ry1223 Hi again sorry to here that.

Unless the others here have a better Idea All I can think (for now)
    Is to run scanreg /fix

The easy'est way on windows ME
    go start >Programs >Accessories
    MS-DOS Prompt then type scanreg(one space)/restore
    hit enter,,
It will prompt you to restart the pc.
so tell us if it needed to fix anything.

Long shot but i have to mention this
check the properties> version of this file smgr.dll v4.90.0.2533
    Do a search for "smgr.dll" , right click > properties> version ?
Its the one in windows system, should be version 4.90.0.3003
If its not windows update is in order.

    Thanks...It's Been Fixed

    To Lonny,

A friend was able to fix my monitor problem. He said he fixed the "driver" something. It's running fine now.

Thanks still for your prompt responses and advises. I learned a new thing about restoring system. And sorry for the trouble I gave you.

    Thanks and God bless.:)
