Setup new mobo to default settings, formatted and clean installed xp pro without any errors or problems at all.

    Problem:
When I normally shut windows down, it seem to normally shut down BUT the case green power light stays on and the (2) fans keep running (one case fan and one cpu fan) and maybe something else but can't tell.
At this point I can hold the case on/off switch down for a few seconds and it totally shuts down....Dah!!!!

This fan thing never did this before.......Any Suggestions???

    Thanks

    Check this:

Click: start > control panel > power options.

    Select Advanced Tab.

Where it says "When I Press Button on my Computer "
make sure -- Shut Down -- is selected.

Don't know what your's has BUT mine goes like this:

In ctrl/pnl under "power Options" (advanced) tab.......the only thing that's there is (under select the power saving options you want to use).....in the box "Options ".

Box un-checked for "alwas show icon on the taskbar" ??????

I'm using Windoxs XP - home edition.

    Guess there's a difference there.
Under the "show icon in taskbar" I have another box.
"prompt for Password from computer resumes from Stanby "

Then at the bottom of window is "Power Buttons" with the various options of what todo when power button on computer is pressed.

Don't know where the pro edition keeps those tasks.
Duplicated your problem by changing the power button setting from 'shut down' to "standby ".

Also when I first installed XP the stanby mode was selected.

Hopefully someone else knows how to get there in pro edition or do a search in help for "power options" ?

The problem on shutdown is usually a driver that causes it not to shut the system down..or program..I have to turn mine off with the power button also because the software to ru my cordless keyboard interferes and causes it..anything with netropia..and many types of hardware devices software can cause xp to do this..even software for scanners, cd-r...etc...win xp recomends you load no oftware with devices....no ocr programs..drivers only..
