    Start~run and type regedit.

    Do a find for Symantec.

    Then stat~run and type sysedit and search the System.ini for symantec. It may or may not be in there.

    AFTER you get that done.

    I would suggest that you go to the C:\Windows\Sysbckup folder and delete the RB00X.CAB files you find there. Then restart Windows so it will make a new one that does not included Symantec.

    Did you search for symantic or symantec ? It should be symantec .

    c:>windows>sysbackup ??????

    C:\Windows\sysbckup Is what it is on my two 98 machines

    If the RB00X.CAB files are not in that location then I have no explaination as to why not.

    Hey Zander Nroton will not work either. but Norton will. :)

    z4u

    Try a regedit using both symantec and norton

    And if you are looking for Symantec folders on the hard drive there will be one at

    C:\Windows\Application Data\Symantec that needs to disposed of.

    That folder is very often overlooked when removing Symantec products.

    Also, try searching for just part of the name that your sesching for, eg syman for symantec, or nort for Norton. I wish you the best of luck, I only wish McAfee was more popular, but Norton does the marketing (free w/new PC), while McAfee does what it takes to make a good program

    z4u, a bit of clarification. When BillyBob suggests deleting the RB00X.CAB files, the X in the file name is a variable. This would include RB001, RB002, etc, where the X represents the 1, 2, etc. You did find the correct files, but do not delete them, yet.
    Now the other problem; Start\Run type in Regedit. Use the + signs in the left pane to get to this Key [folder];
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDLLs
    Now look to the right pane, you will see a bunch of lines, some starting with C:\Program Files, some C:\Windows\System, depends on what is installed. One of them may have the Symnatec, when you find the right one, right click and delete it.
    Then go to this key;
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD
    Expand that key and look for Symnatec in the left pane, not on the right pane. If found, delete.

    When you delete, remember it does not go into the Recycle Bin, it is gone. Reboot, if no problems, then you can delete the RB00X.CAB files.
    The reason I say not to delete first, as these are your registry backups, and may need them if you do something wrong above.
