A friend of mine who is running Windows XP, kept getting an error when running some CD with a game on it. The error said he needed to change his display settings to 800x600. I went to his Control Panel and Display Settings, and verified that it was 640x480 and adjusted it to 800x600 but there was no way to save the changes... or no "Apply" button to save the new settings. I clicked the trouble shooting icon and it said something about re-installing the driver for the monitor, when I tried to do that I got a message saying the driver was already installed properly. Could anyone suggest me something to try to change the display settings to 800x600 and have them stay.

    Thanks,

A couple of things to try...
Go into the device manager and uninstall (delete) your monitor from there. Reboot and let Windows redetect your monitor. If it doesn't and selects standard or plug and play monitor manually change (update) the driver and search for a new driver making sure you tell it to show all devices. If your monitor is not selectable under the manufacturers list you will have to down load a driver (inf file) from their web site.

Download the latest driver(s) for your video card as well.

Is it possible the apply button is there but below the bottom of the screen where you can't get at it? If so, set the display to 800x600 (don't mess with anything else at this time) and then press the tab key 6 times. Then press enter.
