Please expand on these - what is a CRC error for a start?

Are both HD's the same file system?

Pete- I have no clue. On some in stalls the error simply says

"CRC Error: file "whatever the file's name is ".

and on others it reads like this

"CRC ERROR: The file "whatever the file's name is" does not match the file in the setup's .cab file. The medium from which you are running the setup may be corrupted. Contact your software vendor. "

    It gives you 3 options=abort=retry=ignore
If you ignore, the game/program will finish loading but not work properly, if you retry the same thing happens again. If it were just one program I could understand, But this is on alot of my installs not just one. 6 games so far and 2 programs.........

    CRC: cyclic redundancy check

Normally there are 3 main reasons for CRC errors. The most common is the file is bad.

Second is, in such cases as RARs, ACEs and ZIPs, you're using an older version of the unpacker to unpack them with.

Third is hardware, normally due to a bad block of Ram As the
data is being unpacked in RAM and hits that bad block, a CRC error occurs. There are more things that can contribute to CRC errors, but these are the most common.

Well if that is the case then it must be a RAM issue, as I am loading from discs not a zipped file...........

Have these games/programs run under your current OS - we are talking of one PC with 2 HD's, aren't we?

Try copying an entire disk to a Temp directory on the HD and install from there.

O.k. The games and programs were operating fine on THIS SYSTEM. I uninstalled them and am attempting to re-install them on the SAME system just on a different drive. This is the most puzzling thing I have encountered. These are originals not burned copies. I am stumped. I will attempt your suggestion of first copying them to the HD and installing from there........

 Tried to install from HD, same errors. I am soooooooo lost! I have noticed that the problem only occurs on programs that were previously installed, programs that were not recently on this system install with absolutely no trouble whatsoever.......... What could be the problem????? Is there some sort of file that I must find in order to re-install? I am at my wit's end here.........

Will, I am extremely puzzled too  but the clue may lie in the quote above - as they are original disks the chances of corruption would seem to be negligible and presumably there is no physical damage?

It is possible that these programs did not uninstall completely and there may still be reference to them in the Registry. So I suggest a real good clean up of the system. Refer to this post of Mike's - and 'clean up good!' -

    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=18359

This isn't a spyware problem, but no harm and probably some good in running them. Update each program immediately after downloading and before running.

You should also run RegSeeker after the other regcleaners.

    Hope this solves the problem.

Hey Pete, well I was beginning on this path late last night, as I ran a program called Advanced Registry Optimizer. Didn't help. But I am going to follow the directions in the other posting and cross my fingers. I am about to the point of backing up stuff and wiping the drive, but **** I hate doing that........

 Well, I ended up spending SEVERAL hours backing up files and then wiped the drive and reinstalled windows. Whatever the problem was, this solved it. I really hate to go through all of that, but sometimes it's the only solution. I have now re-installed all of the programs and placed them where I wanted them. Thanks for all suggestions. C~Ya!
