A few days ago, I pulled several files into the 'Files Waiting to Be Burned to CD' Folder. I burned them to disc with no problem.

However, now those files always show up when I reboot. I go into the file to delete them. But a message pops up saying that the file or files can't be deleted because they are in use by another program or person.

I do this when no other programs are even open and it still pops up. I've even gone into Task Manager and shut most everything done to no avail.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Would a System Restore work?

    Thanks in advance.

Have you gone into My Computer and opened your CD burner drive? There should be shortcuts to the files there with an option in the task pane on the left to delete them.

I have gone in there and tried to delete it using that feature.

That is when it pops up saying that the file cannot be deleted because it is in use by another program or person - when I have no other program opened.

Try booting to Safe Mode and deleting from there.

Hmm....the files listed when you open the CD burner drive should only be shortcuts, not the actual files themselves. If they don't have the small shortcut arrow in the icon, then they must be the files themselves in which case you might not want to delete them until you figure out why you're getting that message.

This "Files Waiting To Be Burned To CD" folder - is it one you made yourself? When you pulled the files into this folder, did it copy them there or move them there?

What kind of files are they? Any system files or exe files? Are any of them Outlook pst files? It does seem strange that a program can be using them if their location has been changed, though.

Follow this path C:\Documents and Settings\Username\
Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\CD Burning and delete it there. I'm pretty sure if you get into that folder it will delete. Anyplace else it is probably waiting to be written.

If none of the previous suggestions work for you, you might try this. Open my computer and right click on your cd burner drive. Click properties and on the recording tab uncheck the line that says enable cd recording on this drive. If you have more than one burner do this for the rest too. Then see if you can delete the files. If not, try rebooting and then try deleting again. Don't really know if this will work or not. Just a thought.
