    Please How oh How:

Can I get rid of Windows Media Player "9 series" on my Windows XP Pro machine and install the old Windows Media Player version 7.01 like the one now on my Windows ME machine.
7.01 has so many more neat features and that ##!!** series 9
does not and won't work half the time anyway!

I'm afraid your out of luck.
As far as I know there is no uninstall for WMP9

The only way to return to WMP8, is to use System Restore
to return the OS to a time before WMP9 was installed.

Not a good idea. SR is not a way to uninstall software, especially MS's. Certainly not after a period of time where the affect could be disasterous affecting other software with shall we say unpredictable results. If SR were used reasonably close, that would be a different matter, the affect on the other parts of the system would be minimal.
