Everytime I use Norton Utilities 2000 "WinDoctor," I get an error report noting 15 "Missing or Invalid ActiveX/COM Subkey Entries" that can supposedly "cause documents to open improperly, applications not to run, or your computer to crash. "

    So I repair them, obviously.

The next time I run the program a few days later, I get the exact same 15 subkey entries reported as a problem.

So I repair them again, obviously.

And on and on it goes, with the same so-called problems resurfacing. By the way, there are absolutely no perceptible problems with my PC, so far as I can see, other than the Windoctor claims.

What's going on? Should I do anything about it -- and if so, what? -- or should I just chalk it up to one of those unfathomable PC glitches and forget all about it?

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

As far as I can see the first version of Norton Utilities to be compatible with XP was 2002.

Not surprised that you are having problems. NU 2000 is not compatible with XP?

My mistake. I meant to say I have NU 2002. It is (supposedly) XP compatible.

Thanks for the tip. Regcleaner seemed to do the trick, but I'll try NU again in a few days to make sure.

Btw, Mike's instructions re: regcleaner to "delete them all" should caution people to remove only the green-coded items considered "probably safe to remove." Luckily, the program itself warned me I was about to remove red-coded items, so I selected only green and seem to be okay.

My "Remove them all" apply to RegCleaner.

JV6 is different and I have never advised anyone to remove the Red items.

In fact I still advise most people to stick with Regcleaner because of this.

    No! No reason to apologize!

I just wanted everyone to know there is a difference.

Well, I've got the same 15 problems showing up in NU again.

Any other ideas? This one beats the hell out of me.

    Fire the Doctor!

These are not really "problems "!

Registry entries by ActiveX and many programs are alsmost like Temp files.

They are using the registry for a notpad. You will be cleaning them forever.

    Forget it!

Thanks. I also had the thought that the continued reappearance of these "problems" -- with no apparent real problem in the operation of my PC -- was somethink akin to "temp" entries.
