    Hi,

I thought I would drop a line and ask a few questions about a problem I have. A freinds mother called me last night and asked me to stop by and look at her puter..said it was running slow and what not. I got there and found WinXP Pro version installed on a very small system (not sure of all specs)

Basicly the system is struggeling to run this version of Win and she wants her Win98 back as she says at her age WinXP is to much for her to understand. Anyways I want to reinstall Win98 on her system but she has no disk of any kind not even a boot disk. I tryed to make a boot disk last night and the system is either very slow or locks up.. so needless to say I never got the boot disk made.

Can I just go to command prompt and fdisk the darn thing and when I need to create a new boot disk for win98?
Any help or advise ob how to go about this wouod be greatly appreciated

If you want a boot disk for Win 98 you won't make one except from a Win 98 OS (or Me, maybe 95) computer; certainly not from XP

Go here for a boot disk for 98
    http://www.bootdisk.com

    then fdisk

I need a boot disk for XP pro I have 6 set up disk I just downlaoded and tryed to use but it wants to set up XP and I want it out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cant fdisk or format what the he** is going on? is there a way to let this format god I hate XP. this is what I get.

Format cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Format may run if the volume is dismounted first. ALL OPEN HANDELS TO THIS VLOUME WOULD THEN BE INVALID. Would you like to force a dismount of this volume? Y/N I Typed Y and got this

Cannot lock the drive the volume is still in use.

Arrgghhh what do I need to do to reformat this pig!!! ???

    :)

    One method:

Put the XP CD into the CD drive.
    Boot the computer.
Repartition the drive using the utilities on the XP CD
Format the drive in FAT32 with the XP CD.
Remove the XP CD, reboot with a Win98 boot disk with CD-ROM support, type E:/setup (where E: is the temporary drive letter assigned to the CD drive, D: being the temporary drive created by the boot disk), press Enter and the Win 98 setup should begin.

    Second Method:
Call whoever put XP on the computer and tell them to get over there and put 98 back on it, free of charge.

    Sorry for my hostilitys...

Was a bad day... but thought I would logg and let you all know I got the machine formated and reinstalled WIN98.
Seems that XP has a prvious system restore.. :) if you got to add/remove programs and just plain uninstall XP it will restore your previous OS prior to XP and that happened to WIN98 on my freinds computer :) so once the machine got done restoring the old WIN98 I got a boot disk in it and re booted and went on my merry way while fdisking and formatting to insure I had a clean drive :).

And now we are up and running nicley :) thanks for the help and suggestions guys :)

    Best Regards,
    FireDancer ;)
