Outlook Express 6: Trouble sending messages - Error 0x800CCC0E

    Hello,

    I have Outlook Express 6. I have 3 email addresses linked to Outlook. When I start up OE 6 it will retrieve all of my emails, but if I try to reply to emails in each of the accounts only one will work. For example I have a @cox account, @ covad account and a @yahoo account. The only one that works is @cox. I get the same error message on the other accounts:

    The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop.covad.net', Server: 'smtp.covad.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

    The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop.mail.yahoo.com', Server: 'smtp.mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

    I'm guessing here, but I have a feeling that to reply to a message from, say, your covad.net mail server, but delivered through your @cox mail server, you need to be connected to the covad.net mail server- same for yahoo. Have you tried this? No doubt something to do with the header?

    I distinctly remember a problem on a friend's m/c where the btopenworld.com mail server was able to retrieve emails from the virgin.net mail server, but he could not reply to those emails on the btopenworld connection. No problem when connected to virgin.net. Sounds odd, but as I recall, true.

    Presumably your default connection is @cox which is able to retrieve emails from the other accounts.

    The other possibility is that both the other mail servers are down - rather unlikely I think.

    No doubt someone much wiser in these matters will post :)

    Oh I might should add that I am using cable access thru @cox.

    I have to agree with PeteC. Most servers will not allow an outside server to route mail through them to prevent unauthorized use/spamming. @cox will go look at mail from other servers, but probably won't allow another to send mail through @cox. Go look at the other 2 accounts, properties, in the outgoing mail server, put in the @cox info and see if that works.

    I Knew it would be simple. I changed the outgoing info, of all accounts to, @cox data and all replies now flow freely.
