    sttonk--When does this happen?
When you start Windows Explorer, surf the Internet, play a game, etc.?
Is this something new? Did you recently install some new hardware/software?
If you run a popup stopper, disable it and see what happens.
Here is an all around reference site for error messages
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;315854
I see you have posted in the Internet forum, but you say the message references "Explorer" rather than "IExplorer ". You may be correct, since Windows often confuses the two, but thought I would just check.

Thanks, when typing in the address bar or search window while on the internet, I will get say 2 ff's when typing in an f. Then when I try to backspace I get the error message. Sometimes just when the double letter comes up. The error is always EXPLORER not iEXPLORER.

Do you only have problems when typing into IE ?
Not in eg Word or any text editor or other apps ?
I am trying to eliminate a bad keyboard from the problem.
    regards

Thanks, I've tried the IE repair. The problem is only when on the internet with address or search boxes. I have also done the deltree history, and unchecked auto fill for web address and windows explorer. About this same time my pop-up stopper, Stopzilla quit working and I deleted it. We cannot get Stopzilla back on my computer either. We keep getting a configuration error. No other typing problems so I don't think it is the keyboard.

This is very similar to what happened to me recently. I discovered that there were corrupted "history" files. The fix for me was to boot the sytem to a DOS screen <start - shut down - reboot in dos mode> and type -- deltree history -- <hit enter and y to verify>. This clears out ALL the history files, and my problem went away. Hope this helps

    Possible corrupted OS.

That is System built and maintained file that requies a re-install of the OS to repair PROPERLY.

About this same time my pop-up stopper, Stopzilla quit working and I deleted it. We cannot get Stopzilla back on my computer either. We keep getting a configuration error

Both messages are related to a corrupted system.

I would suggest a COMPLETE VIRUS scan before doing anything else.

    Then re-install the OS.

Thanks for your help. I reinstalled Win98se and thought the problem was fixed but it has started again. I'm running our of ideas and fixes. I've run sfc, regedit, deltree history. I think it's gremlins. John
Also to welshjim, I'm not using a loader that I know of, it is only when I type into a search or address block it puts two letters of the letter that I have typed. Thanks

    Welshjim and others.

What do you think of a POSSIBLE case of Versionotus here ?

And using SFC to replace files may well make things worse.

A possibility of the wrong version of update was installed.

Which BTW. Microsoft was kind enough to do for me ONCE. A long time ago.

Having been fixed ( or seemed to be ) and then coming back leans me heavily toward it.

BillyBob--If by versionitis you mean that the versions of IE and OE are mismatched, that certainly is a possibility. sttonk has never told us what versions of IE and OE are running.
sttonk--Along those lines, if you are not using IE6 (which comes with OE6) you might want to download and install.
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/default.asp
And even if you already have IE 6, have you been to the MS Windows Update site to get recent critical update patches?
    http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp
If you use that site for Updates you will probably not have problems with the wrong version. (However, you may not want to install all critical updates offered. While I have installed all those involved with security and cumulative updates, I passed on the recent DirectX9.0b update.)
Did you install any Windows Updates or other software just prior to the problem starting?
P.S. BillyBob If you mean that the user.exe file could be the wrong version, I am not so sure. user.exe comes with Windows. sttonk has reinstalled Windows and still has the problem.

Ah yes . That I do The two of them must match.

What may be needed here it to download the FULL IE6 and then install it and MAKE sure that OE gets installed also.

And if you do do the above LET IT GO ONLINE if it asks to.

I myself dumped OE altogether a LONG, LONG time ago becasue of those problems.

I already have IE6 and I just recently installed the critical updates hoping it might resolve this problem. I don't exactly remember when my problems started but I have had some problems since I downloaded IE6 and OE from the Yahoo website. My version of IE says Microsoft Internet Explorer provided by Yahoo! And the same is true for OE. I've looked for ways to delete this and reinstall IE6 but when I tried to install IE again it came up as Yahoo provided. Do you think this could be a problem?

Now we may be getting somwhere.

I think we may well have a case of Versionitus now.

But now I see as being possible between Microsoft and Yahoo.

May be both the problem and the cause of. From Yahoo may WELL NOT BE the proper version for your OS.

And then adding MS updates on top. OUCH !!!

You need IE6 COMPLETE from Microsoft.

sttonk--Click on IE Help|About Internet Explorer and tell us what version of IE is indicated. You could also tell us what Updated Versions are indicated. Now do the same for OE (OE Help|About Microsoft Outlook Express), except here just report the Version.
When you say you have a Yahoo version of IE, it may just be that your IE and OE are "branded" with Yahoo in the title bar. That means nothing and the version of IE/OE could be standard.
The info you supply about version will tell us.
