    Hi, newbie here...

    I've just started up a new pc and finally have the old Win98 pc to use for myself alone. I've deleted all the user accounts and have selected the "All users...use the same profile..." option in Control Panel > Passwords > User Profiles tab.

    I still get the Windows 98 log on dialog box on start up. I know there's a way to get it to go straight into Windows but can't remember how. Can ya help me out here?

    Also a question about creating user profiles in XP HERE

    Thanks irdreed!

    The XP link sounds like it's what I'm looking for. Haven tried yet though.

    I removed the profiles and edited the registry but that still didn't do it. My mistake. I later read the dialog box a little more closely. The log on dialog box is for windows networking rather than just the standard win98 log on.

    I recently installed a wireless router and have the old and new PCs connected, so that might be where the request for log on is coming from. Can this be removed or am I stuck logging on as long as its connected to my home network.

    Sorry, I should have posted all info before asking the question!

    I´m not on Win98 but IIRC;

    go to the Controlpanel and open Network connections,

    right-click Your connection and choose properties,

    highlight "Client for Microsoft Networks" and choose properties,

    if I´m right You can choose either "Windows login" or "Network login ".

    HTH,
    Christer

    Thanks Christer.

    I ended up stumbling over that on my own this the weekend. Selecting Windows log on did it. Now the PC boots up and connects to my home net without any password dialog boxes. Thanks everybody!
