    I put a new hard drive in my laptop a week or two back and since then installed Windows 2000 on it with no problems!

    I then, for many reasons but mainly few resources, decided to format c: and install Windows 98!

    Here is when I get into trouble, I manage to install up to a point and then it says something like "Insert Windows 98 disk and press Ok" but the Windows 98 disk is already in the D:

    So I continue anyway and get a message saying that a file (normally a .sys / .dll / .vxd) could not be found and end up having to skip the file (which gives me errors when running the OS). I know that all the files are in .cab files!

    Please help,
    Gary

    Do you want to install the cab files on a drive that already has Windows installed or just a drive that has been formatted?

    If it is the former, use Windows Explorer and copy and paste the Win98 folder to C:\.

    If you want to copy the cab files to a drive that has just been formatted to run an installation of Windows from the hard drive:

    At the c:\ prompt, type:
    md win98 {enter}
    xcopy e:\*.* c:\win98 {enter}
    This assumes your CD-Rom is drive E.
