    I have 4 computers connected to a 3com router. All run win98se.
2 are desk tops (no names) 2 are toshiba notebooks.
My main computer has it's own printer (hp 970). The other desk top has an HP printer connected to it that I want to network with the 2 notebooks for my kids to use. I can connect to all computers through the network and can swap files etc.
My problem is, I cannot print to the 2nd desktop printer.
I originally had the other computers print using my desktop printer
using the same printer now connected to the 2nd desktop and there was no problems. But, when I tried to network the 2 notebooks to the 2nd desktop, I couldn't get it to print. I've checked and rechecked EVERYTHING to be sure there was no errors making sure names and ports were correct and network settings were correct and still no printing. I don't receive error messages just when I try to print to 2nd desk top nothing happens.

Are you trying to print through the second desktop by sharing the printer? Is your HP a network printer? Or is it connected only to the dekstop computer via LPT1?

I'm trying to print to the HP through the 2nd desktop. The HP is connected to the LPT1 port on the 2nd desktop.
I set the printer on my desktop to be shared with the other computers, & have no problems printing to it EXCEPT the 2nd desktop.
I'm suspecting a port problem but I'm not real savy in those matters. All the info I could grab said the same thing "no conflicts ".
If you have any ideas in this matter I'm all ears.

I had this problem and found out that it was a space in the printer name. apparently Win98 doesn't like spaces in the printer name. I had called the printer HP Laserjet 1000 to identify it because that's what it was. But when I searched for the printer on the network, it came up as simply HP. So I used that and installed it using that name and it worked. Hope this helps you.
HP had all kinds of solutions such as disabling bi-directional printing, etc. But thankfully I found someone who knew this, first.
    Good luck
