I deleted several programs from my Windows 98 operating system but since then I continue to get a window at startup saying "Cannot find the file "anrc.exe" (or one of its componets). Make sure................ Once I click ok it disappears with no obvious effect. I have searched for the file in "find" and in regedit and located something under that title. I deleted it but the window continues to be displayed. How do I eliminate this permanently. Thanks for any advice u can render.

Cant seem to find this on the net, searched my computer win98, no such file. Did you "uninstall" these programs or just delete the folders? I would go to start, run, msconfig, and look in the startup folder. See if anything stands out..

Run MSconfig and check contents of Autoexec.bat & Confid.sys(if you have them) and also Win.ini and Sys.ini for any references to the offending program.

Get a free "RegCleaner" from here:
    http://www.pcmedixwebs.com/regclean.htm
(it's not free anymore, but you still can get it for free from the above site)
...and run it. It'll show you all registry leftovers, ready to delete.

Thanks for all your suggestions!!!! I did go into msconfig to win.ini. and under windows I found an checked box alongside of a listing "norun=anrc ". I unchecked the box and restarted the computer but the window persists. I also tried RegCleaner to no success. Any other things I should be trying? Thanks again.

Nancy, this is just a shot in the dark, but some months ago I had a problem like this and all I did was restore my registry to a date prior to the time the problem started. The problem window went away immediately. Good luck.
