I have no wallpaper or graphics on the web. I thought the problem was with a driver vpowerd.vxd, but this doesn't appear to be the case.

This is the message on system inf.

    ADVANCED POWER MANAGEMENT SUPPORT SYSTEM
This device has a problem: code10(OxA)
This device is not present, not working properly, or does not have all the drivers installed.

I have tried to update the drivers on microsoft update to no avail.
I have also removed the device from device manager and installed it with add new hardware.
Also no luck with drivers from win.98se cd

    Would re-installing windows cure it?

    Any ideas?

Thanx to the people who helped with the vpowerd.vxd search.

It is never a good idea to get drivers from Microsoft. You want to get drivers at the manufacturers web site, or do a search at www.driverguide.com You will need to register at driverguide but they have a huge selection of drivers. After you find the correct driver for your device uninstall it and then reinstall.

    Hi Sunny,

call me thick, but I'm not sure what driver I need. I have a sis5579/5598 display adapter. On the list of drivers one says display/0000, could this be the problem. I've been on driver.com a lot but have no idea what to download as I don't know which driver is missing. I've also been on the SIS site but have had no joy there.

10-4, yes that is likely the problem.

Incorrect video drivers would definately effect the wallpaper and graphics.

You will need to go to your Motherboard site (not SIS) to get the correct motherboard chipset drivers (which should include the SIS chipset drivers).

What is the brand and model of your mother board?

If you get the entire chipset drivers this will include the Video and the power management drivers so will probably fix both items.

You should get these as it is probably your fix. You might just try updating to see if it fixes the problem.

But as farther diag, boot to safe mode. Only in safe mode will duplicte (ghost devices show up). In device mgr open each entry and look for "exact" duplicates.

If you have multiple floppy or com or lpt ports (these are windows drivers) you can remove all and windows will reinstall these correctly on reboot. So go ahead and clean these.

If you have a duplicate of a special item like the SIS then if you remove it, it may not reinstall automatically. That is why if you do this you should have the specific driver available.

If you do install the chipset drivers and this does not do it, then the next step is to remove both video controllers and reboot. It may automatically install, but if not you should have the new drivers available.

    Hi,

Found all the details of my motherboard with the help of www.wimsbios.com/, however, it appears the company doesn't exist anymore. If anybody knows different please advise.

    Gemlight P5 ST-A 2A511G39 ver.1 (214-c-72)

In safe mode removed coms. floppy, ltp, advanced p.m.s, sis 5597/5598 and then rebooted, no joy.

Will try vid. controllers idea on wednesday. Have to go away to work for 3 days.

    Thanks so far.

    Hi,

Followed your advice but it seems dtk doesn't do it and vestrick don't seem to exist anymore.

In desperation I re-installed Win 98se over the top, sadly without joy. So I decided to put win ME in and increased my memory while I was at it. Also installed SIS Sandra 2002(a diagnostic prog.)In device manager Advance Power Management System is now not showing a yellow asterik and also doesn't show up as a problem device in system information. The only problem now showing is IRQ Holder for PCI steering error 10, which I don't think would be causing the problem.

In the CMOS diagnosis from SIS Sandra it states Video Controller not enabled. I have looked everywhere I can think of to enable it to see if this would cure the problem. Will a new graphics card cure the problem.

    Any ideas anyone out there.

I know I am slow replying ,but I work away from home 3 or 4 days a week.
