    XP antivirus

I use F-prot for Windows (download free trial version from http://www.f-prot.com ) which only costs 25 Dolllars for a year. It works fine with XP and has excellent test results from (http://www.av-test.org). Easy to use and easy to install and easy to update. And it is much cheaper than the others.

My vote is for Grisoft's AVG free edition. Working fine on XP Pro and updates are completely hands off. Backround realtime scanning, heuristic scanning, email scanning, one button system scans. It's a no brainer that actually works. I guess it takes a free program doing only one thing to get it right...

Norton is an absolute pain with XP on my machine. Even when I did get installed (by using a custom directory without spaces in the name) it fell over every few days.

AVG Antivirus works 100% and is a very well recommended program. Get it at grisoft.com and it's free.

I've been using AVG for quite maybe 2 yrs or more. It seems to work very well, is constantly updated. No problem at all to install. Well thats it, give it a go.

I have 2 Dell's using XP and both with NAV2002. I have not had any problems nor noticed any performance problems. My performance problems were apparently related to having file indexing turned on. Once I turned it off my problem went away.

    McAfee Antivirus on XP

I bought and installed a "boxed" version of the program (v6.01) which really messed up my Outlook Express files. I lost about 30MB of email. Appears there was a bug in the software!!!

Make sure you download the v6.02 patch to avoid my problem. Anyway, it now runs fine.

All I've seen about McAfee is bad news. We had conflicts with it and stopped using it years ago.
