In the other thread you said not to blame XP home for vendor installed software. I think you misunderstood me. I blame HP for that mess, fair and square. Basically, Mom's computer arrived being able to access the net and report every click, because all the software (some of it useful, most of it not) was enabled to access the net. Spybot nearly blew up on the first run. With her high speed cable connection and general ignorance, she might not have noticed. (Computers are great for writing letters and getting pics of Grandkids, and that's about it, for her.)

XP Home, on the other hand, is a stripped down version of Pro, and might be okay for the average user, but is lacking some conveniences available to us with Pro, especially in networking, file sharing and basic configuration. I do not like XP Home because it assumes an "idiot default" for everything, so it takes an hour to tweak it after you install it.

I agree and that is what I really meant also.

As to the differences between XP Home and Pro I wiil invoke my 5th amendment rights on that. As I have not used Home.
