I did a scan of my computer online and it came up with a virus/trojan called BAT DELTREE N that was supposed to be located in my c:/image/tool/delete.bat. I went and had a look and stupidly deleted the executable file DELTREE, but couldn't find the delete.bat file I was supposed to have. Repeated the scan and it came up with the same result.

Can I reinstall DELTREE as I believe, on searching, that this is a required file? What effect will this have on my system and how can I get rid of the trojan/virus if I can't find it where it is supposed to be?

    Thanks very much.

Check Recycle Bin for Deltree, else it can be extracted from the windows cdrom. Deltree is a DOS program for deleting stuff.

Try going to Start\Find\File or Folders and search form deltree.bat

Thanks for this, I thought that was the case, and yes, I had deleted it from the recycle bin.

It was strange though, because my virus checker came up with nothing (AVG) but Housecall did, and with a virus/trojan that when I went to find it wasn't where it said it was, that's why I ended up 'killing' Deltree instead, because of the name of the virus/trojan it was supposed to have found.

Could it be an error or could I still have the virus/trojan?

Thanks for your help on this.

Look on the root of your hard drive for the Autoesec.bat file, rt click it and select Edit. It will open in Notepad. Then look for a line that refers to bat deltree.

Or do a Start~run and type SYSEDIT. That will get all four files for you examine.
