I have a close friend with failing eyesight and a problem using Photoshop - see http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21503

His second monitor (on Matrox G550 Dual Head) curently runs at 800 x 600 and the Display Properties > Settings will not allow a lower resolution to be set. If I could set it up to run at 640 x 480 it would be a great help to him, but how?

    TIA for any suggestions.

If you can, change the second monitor type to generic SVGA @ 640x480, then the video card should default to that.

If he's running Windows XP he's out of luck in regards to the display setting. AFAIK the minimum for XP is 800x600.

But you can increase the default DPI size. From Display Properties, select the Settings tab, and press the Advanced button. Now on the General tab you'll be able to set the DPI setting.

    Reboot, Arie - thanks

Through the Matrox software I have persuaded the second monitor to run SVGA @ 640 x 480 - and this is better. (OS is XP Pro)

I had already changed the dpi setting on the main monitor without, as I recall, any noticeable effect on the second monitor.

Anyway my friend is now much happier!
