windows me my computer

when i click on my computer it shows my a drive c drive cd rom cd r/w drive and control panel icons,then i double click c drive i only get a blank white screen windows explore works fine,last night i got error message that this operation has been canceled due restrictions in effect on this computer , the computer is just a home computer only my wife an i use it no windows xp or 2000 it works fine just this littel problem help please.

What changes have you recently made ,going back say for amounth, did you install IE6 or some third
party security program

Usualy this is couse By SpyBots setting and people forget they applied them, do you have SpyBot installed,
On SpyBots Imunize page lock ie control panel against curent user
On this PC with windows ME it only locks ie control panel when I attempt to use Internet options through IE tools..
I can still get to Internet options through control panel.

Ive seen postings elswhere that can be blocked also, with the same setting on same OS , why its differant I dont know.

Why you cant get to C drive from my computer,Ive never heard of that..
How do you log on to the PC ?
How many profiles do you have setup
what securitly programs do you have ?

thanks loney i have had spybot on this machine but uninstalled it i thought i did download IE 6.0 with in the last month about c drive i can use windows explorer by going to programs and click windows explorer then my computer and get around that way i really appreciate the help any idea why i can print from microsoft word but i cant print from the internet any help would be appreciated.

I think you have Operating system problems.

I think it is time to replace that system with a better OS.

Win98SE or XP Pro. Both are by far superiour to ME.

Windows ME is ( or appears to be and was for me ) VERY TOUGH to fix up once it gets messed up.

I would install SpyBot again , start it in advanced mode on its immunize page check lock IE control panel against correct user
if its is already checked uncheck close the program and then start it and uncheck that options the three settings near bottom on that page are just a convenience, that particular one protects against other users Not from them being changed by a malicious
web site.
I'm not sure if any of SpyBots protections get undone when the program is uninstalled, best to undue these before hand.
Remember to update it before scanning.

SpyBot sets a nobrowse restriction in the registry If I understand correctly if you login to the PC wrong it may effect the folder views in some areas.

Another thing maybe you have Microsoft tweakUI installed ?
Its not completely compatible with win ME.

I cant let SpyBot fix windows user tracts or there is some small problems best not to fix any tracts period.
Just let it fix everything marked in red. Please do.
You could get Adaware also.

You could also use the Microsoft Internet Explorer repair utility
,,control panel add/remove find and click add/remove>
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 SP1 and tools, then choose the repair.
Cant hurt to try.
I'm suggesting this because sometimes people have explorer problems after installing IE6 sometimes.Not just with win ME first guess a incomplete install. be sure to turn off any other programs when using the repair or installing anything Microsoft

Do these things and then will see if you still have printings problems.

Please don't be disapointed. I missed nothing. I had Windows ME on this machine for three ( 3 ) days only. While I did have it I had problems similar to what oldgeez56 is having. There is no way I could live with that ****. 98SE is by far a better and more solid and reliable OS.
