I have win xp pro that has three users on it. I want two of the accounts to be limited users but certain programs that startup with windows now say not installed but run fine on the admin account. How can I allow this program to run on the limited account?
    Thanks

    Try this :

Copy the program shortcut from the admin account Documents and Settings\Administrator\Start Menu\Programs to Documents and Settings\User\Start Menu\Programs

  3. to hide this advert.

Right now the file is under allusers\start menu \ programs\startup and it works for my admin account, but not for the limited accounts. So I don't think that would fix the problem since it is already listed under all users.

But is it listed under the limited user account?

no. but it is not listed under the admin either. So if I copy the shortcut from the all users to each limited account startup folder it should work.

tried moving it to each users startup folder but still not works. Then I tried each users folder and run in win 98 compat. mode but still no luck. Could I use group policy editor and if so how do you use it?

Probably your best bet at this point is to go into security for the folder holding each app and add the limited user accounts to the folders with read/write/execute access. Should do the trick for them. If not, you could try giving them modify rights as well.

If none of that helps then the apps have placed necessary files (.dll, .ocx, or something) in another location where the users don't have rights.

How exactly do I do that. Just right click on the exe file and go to security tab?

You can try just doing the .exe and see if that helps. And just as you said to do it.

If that doesn't work, you may have to set security for the entire application folder. Done the same way.
