Well I'm back with a new problem. All has been well for a while, but when I leave the PC for a few hours to go shopping or whatever, when I return, Internet Explorer won't connect. It keeps giving me "Can not find server" windows. I'm connected with a cable modem. If I restart all is back to normal. Any ideas?

I just looked to see where you are located.

Did this start before or after the Blackout ?

Thanks guys, I appreciate the info. I just unchecked the box for "sleep" mode, we'll see if that works. I'll repost either way. Billybob, it started way before the blackout, but any ideas are very welcome. talk to you soon, Neil

It's 11:56, I just returned home after 2 hrs. I had to reboot, I couldn't connect to the internet. I opened control panel, checked the status of my connection, then did a repair, and still no internet access.

I posted my reply at 13:35 . I left the machine for an hour or two and came back to solid black screen and had to reboot to get Windows back.

Although I did not lose Net access it was an unexpected, un-need, not pleaant surprise.

I am also starting to lose permissions to do things like delete and/or rename files.

I also lost ALL of my Lan connections yesterday.

Windows XP just may be taking a LLLOONNGGG walk off of a short plank.

It seems that XP may just be making adjustments on its own that may not be to my liking.
