My PC at work uses Windows 2000 Professional. Recently, I installed a Tweak utilities package. I found that there were some bugs with the package, so I tried to remove it but couldn't. After rebooting, I found that my privileges had been revoked. Control Panel was missing from my Start->Settings menu and when I right clicked on the desktop and chose Properties, I got the message "This operation has been cancelled, this PC is under limitation. Please contact your administrator" (actually, this isn't the exact message, but a translation because I'm using Chinese version 2000). I couldn't even set the time without getting the same message.

I was eventually able to get into Control Panel by choosing Print Manager from the Settings menu and hitting backspace. I found that my account was still listed as an Administrator but I still didn't have the privileges to do anything (I tried clicking on the System, Display and Date Time icons and got the same error message that I got above).

What can I do? I tried re-installing Win2000 Pro but nothing changed. I even tried getting our Administrator to upgrade my account but still nothing changed. Is there somewhere in the Registry that I can edit to restore my account's privileges?

Probably a change made to a profile that resides on a server so the changes are made on the fly when you log on. You could find that out if you have another account you could use to log on.

Or possibly a local policy setting but you can't do much with those without admin rights and the ability to run the control panel.

I got the admin to sign on to my PC and he was able to open Control Panel. He even granted my account administrator privileges, but it still didn't work.

Backup all your work, get your admin to delete your account and make a new one, then copy all your work over to the new account.

    Hope this helps,
