Have a user who is attempting to stop 'ctfmon.exe' and mdm.exe' from starting/running with Windows. I have suggested a few remedies but they continue to start.

Any ideas how to stop these from running once and for all?

Information and instructions on how to uninstall ctfmon are here.

For mdm, look here. Instructions on how to disable are under the "Workaround" subheading.

    Hi, Miz ~

The first thing I suggested for the 'mdm.exe' was disable the script bebugger in IE options and then run through all the HKLM & HKCU 'Run' to delete all the starters, only one of which existed. Also ran 'StartupList' to determine other hidden settings - nada. There are no Office suites/apps installed, yet upon reboot both 'ctfmon.exe' & 'mdm.exe' are again up and running.

Well there has been Office etc, at some time or other, because that is the only place ctfmon comes from.

    Boot to safe mode.

    1. remove from startup again
    2. find both files on HD and delete
    3. search registry and remove both of these names.
(or link them to regSeeker for the registry cleaning)

I got rid of the mdm by going to Services and stopping it and putting it on manual. For some reason it came on my Dell as automatic. It is called Machine Debugger. I think Office needs ctfmon if you are running Office 2002(XP) I don't have it running on my other machine with Office 2000.
