I just migrated from windows 98 to windows 2000, then I faced myself with another kind of technology called "Windows File Protection ". What's wrong? Well I simply hate the netmeeting. I use other kind of software, but this junk is using precious space of my hard drive. Does anyone knows how to override windows file protection so I can uninstall this and other applications that I don't need it?

    Hi brainysoftworks
    Welcome to the boards!
I'm not a user of 2000, but came across this:

    WFP tyranny

WFP assumes that Bill Gates knows my wants and my PC better than I do, which is TOTALLY WRONG. NotePad.exe is one of the dumbest editors ever invented, and I don't need WordPad.exe either. Erasing either is not allowed -- DUMB & DUMBER!!
What I DO WANT is for NoteTabPro to be my default for *.txt files... which I had somehow achieved on prior Win2k install.
WPF won't let me just copy NoteTab over NotePad.
Now I have had to reinstall Win2k and am going thru all that s/w grief again. .... At first, ControlPanel/FolderOptions would not open. After reboot, it opens, and I set NoteTab to be default for *.txt, which looks correct, but my choice is ignored.
Is there some way to change WFP default from on to off? I had tried something in AdminTools, but that choice was also refused.
This is the sort of nonsense that delayed my "upgrade" from W98, and why I will choose Lindows before I accept WinXP or other.

A google search for disable wfp will give you some information about turning it off. At that point you can remove or change what you want. But with a lowered protection level for your OS.

It may be possible to disable wpf, delete what you want, and then re-enable it without the file(s) showing back up. Haven't tried it myself. And I'd have a good backup before I did since it could have unexpected bad effects. Probably not but possible.
