Windows 98 se wont load

    Windows 98se starts. It opens to a screen showing my wallpaper and the box I must use to open. When I click start I get the hour glass and it stops showing only my cursor. That is a far as it will go. Starting in safe mode does the same thing. I am stuck.
    Reloading windows on top of itself does not help.

    Do you have any windows registry backups from before the
    problem arose ?
    Also you could try a rename of autoexec.bat and config.sys
    and a reboot..

    I have decided to wipe my hard drive clean. It really does need it. I press F8 until it opens into a choice. I chose to open with support and do not remember how to get it to reformat.
    I can readily get it to reinstall Win98 on top of its self
