Audio Cleaner

Finally got round to transferring some old cassette tapes to the PC. The recorder unfortunately records all the bumps and hisses also.
What app do you suggest to improve quality - during or after
the recording ?

I suppose there must be noise filters available that can be connected between the player and the computer.
