The record volume is way too low (can't hear on playback):

I have the Avance AC'97 Audio for VIA built into the Gigabyte GA-7ZXE motherboard but even though the WinXP record AND play "Volume Control" settings are set to the Max (both record and play are maxed out on Volume control, WAV, and Microphone) I can barely hear the recorded wav file afterwards. Is there still another way to boost this volume? Seems the max through WinXP is not enough.

Go to the Sounds applet in Control Panel, click the Advanced button under Device Volume.

When the volume control comes up, click Options, Properties, click the Recording button, click OK.

Under the Microphone volume control which appears, there should be an Advanced button (if not, go back to Options and click Advanced Controls).

Click this button and enable microphone boost.

Yeah, I had all that set to the max AND had the mic boost on as well. Still doesn't seem as loud as it should be.

Was wondering if there was some special "Avance" (the sound device type) option/utility somewhere that tweaks it more. Don't see anything though (have a question in to the manufacturer for whatever that's worth).

    Thx,

You could try removing and reinstalling the drivers.

But this mic stuff can border on witchcraft at times. I've had so-called top-of-the-line mic's with almost no volume on record. One that lost all its sound when a visiting baby sucked on it. And the best one I've had is the $9.95 one I got at the computer store with a switch for high, medium, and mute.

If this mic worked fine in the past, then maybe it is your system. But I'd borrow or buy another mic to try to narrow it down.
