Friend has condition whereby doubleclicking on emails attachment results in an error flashing rapidly (too fast to read) and freezing computer. Cannot reboot computer. Only out is to shut off and restart. Have reinstalled W98 with no improvement.

Other programs appear and act normal.

Any ideas out there? Worm, virus? or Just the d... AV's acting up?

    Bob

If he's running Nortons and McAFee anti-virus at the same time, I would guess they are in conflict with each other.

    Solved

Well for once, Nortons/McAfee AV's weren't the problem! Turns out that good ole Earthlink has a flaw (read bug) in their program, requiring it be reinstalled occasionally to correct this symptom. Nice if they would let people know. Anyway they have an update CD disk that's supposed to correct this problem. In the meantime, just reinstall the old earthlink CD.

All is well in the great NorthWest for the present.
    Thank for you response.
    Bob

Glad you got it fixed. But you may want to look here for earthlink spyware/trojan.
