Hello. My computer went wacko one day. When I turned it on, it had a "window protection error" on it, and would only start in safe mode. Some one told me to reboot to dos, and restore registry, which I did, but it didn't completely put everything back right. I've finally got everything working right now, except when I try to repair IE6, I get these error messages: IE6 cannot be repaired due to the following errors:
Version 5.0.03715 of file VBSCRIPT.DLL exists, but the version needs to be greater than 5.5.05207
Version 5.0.0.3715 of file SCRRUN.DLL exists, but the versions need to be greater than 5.10.5010. I have tried re-installing ie6 with no luck. (Ie6 still works, but what are these error messages, and how do I get rid of them?) Thanks for any suggestions!

Yikes! Thanks for the reply, but I don't understand which one to do. (Very computer illiterate here).

    Hi Chynna

Why are you trying the repair option ?

You should try the install again with nothing else running in the background, anti virus, anything norton, disk utilitys,

Better yet start the pc in safe mode connect to the internet
Go to your control panel addremove ,microsoft internet explorer
and choose add a component == then hit the advanced button and the download only option,
Take note of where it goes,
disconnect then locate the ie6setup.exe usualy in:
C:\WINDOWS\Windows Update Setup Files double click on this exe

After a few restarts check(days) to make sure the repair works

I was trying to run the ie repair to make sure everything was working alright. Also I cannot access the internet in safe mode. I get the "Page cannot be displayed" error.

Chynna--I have never been through the problem you mention, so perhaps some others will comment before you take any of the action below the ---------------- line. The suggestions above the line should cause no harm to your PC, even if they do not help.

Yes, those are old versions of SCRRUN.DLL and VBSCRIPT.DLL . Since newer versions (v5.6.0.6626) should have come with your installation of IE6, I am not sure why you have the old versions. Perhaps leftovers from an installation of IE5X?
Suggest you run a Find on each of these two files. Do you have two versions of each? Right click on the files and then left click Properties|Version tabs. If you have two versions of each, delete (or at least disable by renaming to vbscript.old, etc.) the old versions and put the newer ones into C:\Windows\System, if not already there.
If no help, I am not sure the following will help (but it cannot hurt). Go to Windows Update and see what Critical patches/updates for Internet Explorer exist. I would suggest you install any.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If that does not help, you could try installing the latest version of vbscript.dll, available here as part of Windows Script Host
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/downloads/list/webdev.asp
I think that download may also include scrrun.dll, but am not sure. If not you can get it here,
    http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?scrrun
but check for virus, etc. before opening and installing, since this is not an MS site.
