Howdy from HOT, HUMID, Heat Index of 120, South Texas.

I'm having a problem with IE 6. Running Windows XP Home Edition with all updates installed.

Today I was at www.newegg.com and wanted to buy a new modem. The first time I was there I could display the products listed under the Modem link. I returned later and when I clicked on the Modem link the progress bar started but stopped about half way and just hung there.

I closed IE, deleted temp files and it still hung. I closed IE, opened internet options in the control panel and on the general tab clicked on delete cookies and delete temp files. Back to newegg and clicked on the Modem link and it worked. Closed IE and then opened again, went to newegg and clicked on the modem link and the thing hung again.

I've done this trick a number of times (actually getting pretty good at it :D) so it isn't intermitent. I don't have this problem with other sites at least at this time. I've looked at the advanced options and see nothing obvious there. I am running with Cookie Pal when I turned that off I still had the problem also didn't see any cookies rejected from Newegg so don't think that is a problem.

Well, that's my story and I'm stick'n with it for now. I'm open for suggestions. I feel pretty certain that it is a problem on my end because I can get to where I want to go if I delete cookies and temp files..... also, I called a friend and they could access the site and modems with no problem.

Does your friend use the same ISP? I still would go with newegg's end or your ISP. If this is the only place that does it, then I wouldn't fool with anything in your computer..

My friend does NOT have the same ISP. I'll try again tomorrow and see if this keeps happening.

I don't understand, however, how my ISP would be affecting the access to the site. If I can get to newegg OK, why can't I access various pages? And when I'm hung up why would deleting temp files and cookies allow me to access what I previously couldn't.

    This is a bogglement!;)

Still happening, can't move from the page I am on to the next page. Now the next page is a secure page so that may have something to do with it.

I've tried for 3 days now and I'm still hung out at newegg. I did contact them and from their point of view they are not having any problems at their site.

    You don't say what OS!

In any case there is a problem with encryption as evidenced by this being a secure site.

Do this, remove IE, this will back you up to an older version. Test if this corrected your problem. Even if it did or not, now update back to IE6. Should correct this problem.

Hi Mike, I did say what os.... check the 2nd line of the original post. Now, when I installed XP there was nothing on the hard drive and this is the version of Explorer that shipped with XP so I wouldn't think there would NOT be a previous version if I uninstalled this one. True?

    Yes I overlooked the OS.

Ok if you have XP the only option is to try a repair which in XP is a reinstall. You do not have the original IE if you have done any win updates.

start-run (you can copy/paste the folowing)

    rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Uninstall Information\XPEXCP.EXE /u

Hi Mike, I copy/pasted the command you gave. Here is what happened: A window opened with the option to "Restore the previous windows configuration." I clicked on OK and the box closed. I did it a second time and the same thing.

I couldn't tell if the command worked so I went to newegg and tried to order stuff and got in like no problem.:D RESOLVED!!

So my question is this, when updates become available via the windows update process, should I NOT install the updates? Maybe only install "Critical Updates?"

Mike, thank you for the help. I sure appreciate it.

First thing to try --compair notes:
" "Today I was at www.newegg.com and wanted to buy a new modem. The first time I was there I could display the products listed under the Modem link. I returned later and when I clicked on the Modem link the progress bar started but stopped about half way and just hung there." "

I see no modem link on the first page , please post the correct URL with description to where on page the link is

You might try there lite graphics webpage:
    http://www.newegg.com/index.asp?DEPA=1&ShowTextOnly=1

    Lonny

PS If I remember correctly with cookie pal you need to have IE privacy set to block third party cookies not prompt

    Jim!

    Basic rules regarding win update.

For sure do not let MS autoupdate. So uninstall Crital update notifcation if you have it.

Go there and pick them yourself.

Yes critical first but some of the others you may need.

Don't be ready to jump on as soon as it hits MS. Check this bbs to see if anyone has had a problem lately with win update.

    Unsure ask.

Hesitate doing it at all if all is well.

    Mike
