When shutting down, Windows does not give me the final screen that it has successfully shut down. Instead it leaves a blank screen and I have to turn the computer off manually. It does not seem to affect anything, as at the next Startup the computer boots up o.k. Does someone know the answer?

One possibility that comes to mind right now.

Do you have An Anti-Virus software that is set to check the Floppy at shutdown ? That can hang Windows shutdown forever.

As a test just insert a floppy and then shutdown.

There is another thing or two but at the moment I can not think of them.
