    Hey people,
Afetr many long nights searching ive finally tracked down my BIOS updates...but when i download it, it comes with 3 different updates asking me to find out which one it is,,,this is what it says.

    ARISTO AM-639BX 440BX ATX

    Award BIOS

    B1120IAG.BIN For Super IO = ITE 8671
    Clock Gen IC : Winbond-39A
    (Nov/2000 built)

    B1213IAG.BIN For Super IO = ITE 8671
    Clock Gen IC : ICW-W144
    (Dec/2000 built)

    B0504NAG.BIN For Super IO = N.S.
    Clock Gen IC : Winbond-39A
    (May/2001 built)

    .2Mbit (256KByte) Flash IC
.Fix Windows boot up problem for some PS/2 mouse

    *** Important ***

Please identify the clock generator IC on your motherboard, and the Super IO IC types, before updating the BIOS. Upgrading with a wrong BIOS file may result in failure to power up after the upgrade !

My question is where di i find the "Clock generrator IC "? and the "Super IO IC types "? And also what do they mean??

I can tell you that my bios chip has Winbond on it so i think that disincludes the second up date..But i cant find the other info thanks alot for your help

    Regards
    Redghan

At startup press the Pause key at the second screen. At the bottom of the screen you should see one of these (Bios ID's):
    AM-639BX 11/20/2000-440BX-ITE8671-2A69KV3IC-00
    or
    AM-639BX 12/13/2000-440BX-ITE8671-2A69KV3OC-00
    or
    AM-639BX 05/04/2001-440BX-PC87351-2A69KV3QC-00

    From:
    http://www.plasma-online.de/english/identify/serial/mainboard/mb_aristo.html

The date will relate to those build dates you have.

If the second screen is an Intel/Aristo/Vendor logo (splash screen) then when you see the first screen (graphics info) press/hold down the ESC key (may possibly be Tab). This should show the second information screen. When you see the the second screen you can press the Pause key. Press Enter to go onto further screens.

If you haven't found it, there is a manual here:
    http://www.ventura.at/navigation/subnavigation/prod/mb/am639bx.htm

Have fun (and follow the instructions carefully)
    Matt
PS Let me know if I haven't explained this well enough.

Thanks for your help. But None of those are my BIOS, But i had a look on that website and none of my BIOS match..this is what it says.

    12/17/1998-i440BX-ITE867-2A69KV3IC-00

And none of them are on that web site... The numbers are the same as a couple except the date...

My motherboard has no name written on it except the Motherboard number which is 35-8839-01 ...thats all i have to go on and it took me ages to get this far... WHat do i do now???

IM postitive this is my m'board. http://www.ventura.at/navigation/subnavigation/prod/mb/am639bx.htm

But thats where i got the BIOS update from.

Anyway let me know what you all think.

The rule of thumb of updating a BIOS is that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I would imagine this is especially true if you are not sure which it is!

Agree with RayH. I would not flash a BIOS unless I was certain. I think you can guess the consequences of flashing the wrong one.

Then again, I like to know as much as I can about my machine.
You won't have the proper information about it without the correct motherboard manual, drivers, etc.

I would ask here (read the stickies first):
    http://www.motherboards.org/forums/viewforum.php?f=2

    Matt

    PS: 35-8839-01 relate to the models AM-628BX ATX ; AM-639BX ; AM-646ZX/-S
