Recently I re formatted my C Hard drive. I backed up part of my data on an external hard drive for my Incredimail data. Can anyone tell me where I can find the address book. Also for Eudora?

    Hi

As far as I know your address book in IM is only a copy of your OE or Eudora. The original remains part of your e-mail program.

This being so you should choose 'Import' to retrieve all your addresses from your mail program.

I have checked my IM and see the paths to the 'Inbox' etc but when I check the Properties of the Address book there is not path.
I have also looked in the Data Folder & Bin folders of IM and do not see reference to the address book.

I am not familiar with Eudora therefore cannot advise on this. If you have IM reloaded try to use the 'Import' feature ~ hopefully it will give you the option of your Eudora address book.

    Suggestion for using Eudpra.

Install it on a partition other then C:

Change all addresses to Eudora Nicknames.

Format C: to yours hearts content.

Eudora will be sitting there waiting for you when you get your OS back. Addresses and all.

And quite likely will run just fine with out re-installing.

I am now in XP Pro and am using the same Eudora ( other than upgrading versions ) from the same E: drive that I was using in Win95.

I do not know for sure as I do not use Outlook or Outlook Express but I believe the addreses can be imported into OE.

Thank you all for the help. However, it has not been too successful an operation to export or import the address books from either e mail systems. What I was now looking for was the file seen when I go to C drive, program file,Incredimail, and look for the actual address book in order to transfer that. Eudora is listed under Qualcomm , but I can't find the actual file there either.

    Hi

I have double checked mine again and do not find the address book BUT I am guessing this is because I do not have IM set as my default mail program.

If you look at the screen shot HERE

You will see an ' Address Book ' folder. I think this may appear when IM is the default mail client. This is only my theory on it but the screen shot may give you a clue about the folder you are looking for.

I have my IM installed on a separate partition so will have to look and see if it stores the address book in 'C' somewhere.

Hope this helps you in the meantime. I know now - the screen shot is different from my data as I have XP and the set up is different from the one shown.

In Eudora the Nickname file has to be built manually. It is not imported.

If you Import into Eudora from say OE than all you are actually doing using the same address book. And if it should get wiped out your are out of luck in Eudora also.

Unlike imported addresses Eudora Nicknames hang around regardless of the condition of OE or other E-mail

If Nicknames are used then Eudora becomes 99.5% standalone and uneffected by IE, OE, Windows or what ever other e-mail you may be using.

I myself also use MailWasher to pre-screen the mail right on the server and get rid of the trash before it is downloaded.

Oh BTW. EVERYTHING in any version of Windows for Eudora is stored right within the Eudora folder. It is not scattered to hell and back like other e-mail programs do.

I have to add to ( or correct the above ) a bit.

I have now moved Eudora e-mail over to a 3rd HD ( slave ) where it is available for use no matter which HD I have booted to.
