    I have a problem where all of my fonts show up as bold even thought i have the theme set as windows clissic and as much as i can see nothing is bold in the display in the control panel.

    Is there a way to set the fonts back to the default like if it was a fresh install.

    what will happen if i pop in the 2000 cd and repair the installation?

    Will i loose any of my settings?

    Will it rewrite the registry?

    Now i just found out that when he goes in to excel not all of the tabs are shown when a configuration window comes up.

    Any one have any ideas?

    all of my fonts show up as bold

    Where? Desktop only, within some apps, within all apps?

    I'd suggest the following since none of it will hurt and considering your strange Excel problem (and maybe some others you just haven't noticed yet) it could help. In the order listed would be good.

    - dump all temporary internet files
    - virus scan from some on-line site like Housecall
    - start~run~cmd then chdksk /f and reboot
    - run both spybot and ad-aware after updating their def. files. If you don't have either, download and install them then update and run them. If you have ad-aware but not the most recent version (build 6.181)
    - start~run~sfc /scannow and after it completes, if the OS CD you used doesn't have the latest SP you have installed, reapply the SP
    - repair MS Office

    Thanks for the reply and also thanks for deleting my second post ( it wouldnt let me do it )

    Where? Desktop only, within some apps, within all apps?
    everywhere!

    I'll do all the things you sugjested.

    I thought i wrote why this happened :eek: :eek: :eek:

    Someone couldnt remove a program thru add/remove programs so he deleted it's folder, rebooted and tried to reinstall the same program and thats when all the default fonts on the computer became all bold.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Ok, i looked in to the problem alittle further. I noticed in the C:\winnt\fonts folder there is no icon for "tahoma" fonts BUT there is one for "tahoma bold ". So i grabbed my office xp cd and tried to reinstall the tahoma fonts. It shoots an error back at me. Fonts already installed you need to remove the old file before you can install the new file. It's not listed in the folder so how the hell does it do this?
    What i did was go in to the registry and delete the tahoma key in hkey_Local_Machine/Software/Microsoft/winnt/current version/fonts rebooted and all the fonts were back to normal. Whats the deal with that? Why was it not showing up in the fonts folder but saying it was installed?
    Is there some sort of fonts driver that i need to re-register?
    Thanks for the update and glad you got it fixed.
    As to the "why" - my guess (and a WAG) would be a reg entry that said the missing font was there just got the system confused. Your fix was exactly what was needed.
    Tahoma is usually set as a default for lots of things and absent the normal, they might well default over to the bold as being the closest match.
    update for the update
    I dug a litte deeper and noticed that the tahoma font had and extension of .FON in the registry ( i didnt catch that the first time around ) so i figuered what could it hurt if i just change the extension back to .TTF?
    Well it worked !! I couldnt belive it so i went back in and changed it back to .FON and the fonts were all bold.
    sometimes it's better not to question why, just accept the response.
    Now i just have to write a small script to change the .FON to .TTF in the registry on my remote machines and the world be a better place. :mad: :p
