I'm using IE6 on WindowsXP with all updates.

Recently, IE started showing "Enter keyword or Web Address" in the address bar on startup. Now every time there is a search item not found, I get redirected to Overture with the following:

    http://xml.overture.com/d/search/p/igetnet/html/domainlander/?Keywords=pigalopolous (I searched for pigalopolous)

I know the Overture problem has been discussed before, but no one has stated how to purge IE of this arrogant menace. How do you get rid of it?

By the way, I have Spywareblaster installed. Have I inadvertantly allowed Overture to happen?

    Thanks for any help.

    Hello edjer,

The search function of your Browser has been hijacked, done either thu something you downloaded or thru ActiveX - "drive by download ".

Download and install HijackThis http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ If you need help in interperting the results, go here http://www.spywareinfo.com/yabbse/ Hard to use the first time because you don't have a baseline. When this gets cleared up, keep the resultant log for comparison for future use.

    For secure Browser settings http://www.windows-help.net/features/surf-safe.html

    If you don't have them:

    SpyBot http://tomcoyote.org/SPYBOT/ Toturorial
    Ad-Aware http://www.lavasoft.de/

    Regards - Charles

Thanks Charles. Spybot did it. I had Igetnet taking over the search. I have AdsGone and SpywareBlaster running and I also have Hijack This. I must have ignored it in Hijack, thinking it was something else. Neither Pest Patrol nor Trojan Remover caught it either. Thanks for pointing me to Spybot. The price is right too.

    Hi Ed,

    You welcome.

You've reversed my expectations vis HijackThis and SpyBot. I thought it far more likely that you already had tried SpyBot, especially given your reference to SpywareBlaster.

Glad I added the reference to SSD, it was a longshot in my mind.

    Regards - Charles
