When I attempt to open a newsgroup message which contains a graphics attachment, a Script Error warning box pops-up in the viewer pane asking if I want to continue to run scripts. This warning box appears twice, and after selecting the "Yes" box twice I can then view the attachment.

I have enabled scripts in the Options menu and I have enabled viewing of attachments in all areas (Options menu and my firewall program).

    Any suggestions?

IE and OE are closely linked - try this

Go to IE > Tools > Internet Options > Advanced and make sure that 'Display a notification about every script error' is unchecked.

My guess is that the script does indeed contain an error or incompatibility.

Robie135--If that does not help, first check OE Tools|Options|Security tab and see what IE Zone setting you are using for virus protection. I suspect Internet Zone.
Then, click IE Tools|Internet Options|Read tab|Custom Level and see what boxes are checked under Scripting (near bottom). I suspect you have Prompt checked. You can change to Enable. This makes your system a little less secure, but you should not see the boxes. Maybe you would rather keep clicking the "run script" windows??
Here are two more ideas, but I do not think they fit your report about getting "run script" messages.
    1) Click OE Tools|Options|Security tab. Is the box "read all messages in plain text" checked? If so, uncheck, click Apply, OK. Note, also this lowers your security a little.
    2) And finally something for the person who is sending the message to check. (From OE Help) "If message recipients are not able to view your inserted images, on the Tools menu, click Options. Click the Send tab, click HTML Settings, and then make sure that Send pictures with messages is selected. Then resend your message "

RE: OE not disp. graphics attachments

Thanks to PeteC and WelshJim for the responses, however, I tried both and no luck yet! I also fully enabled scripting in my firewall program (Norton Internet Security Professional) and still no luck!

    Any further hints/tips to try?

You mention NIS - do you also use NAV with Script Blocking turned on?

Any clue as to the source of these script error messages, ie are they clearly NAV or the usual innocuous grey box from IE?

PeteC: thanks for the additional info., however, I tried disabling Script blocking in NAV and it had no effect. I am getting the usual Grey OE pop-up boxes indicating I need to enable Scripting.

I have enabled scripting everywhere I can find a spot to do it and still no luck.:(

Can't think why I didn't post this link before - it is one of my standard responses to OE questions to which there is not an obvious answer :

    PROBLEM SOLVED

I finally solved my own problem!

I used X-Tech Registry Editor. Open Internet-Outlook Express-Appearance. Select "Disable Slide Show of Attachments ". Reboot.

This will allow a preview of graphics attachments in newsgroup messages in the lower pane.

Many thanks to those who posted suggestions, I really do appreciate the help!
