I connected my Win 98 computer to my other Win XP computer.
As Server (win xp) and client (win 98).
The Win XP is connected to the Internet and the Win 98 connected through the Internet Connections Sharing on the Win XP computer to the Internet.
So far all is fine my connection is adsl and I can surf in both computers at the some time.
But I can’t receive POP mail through the win 98 computers, I get a time out message! In the win XP I have NO PROBLEM send & receive.
I call may ISP and they suggest to me to change the MAXMTU to 1460 or 1470 to resolve this problem. It didn’t help at all I still can receive mail on the win 98 computer.
    Any help will be appreciate.

Ami - let me start by saying I cannot give you a step-by-step for any ICS issues because I have never used it.

My best guess would be that you are not set up on the 98 PC to get POP3 traffic in. Should be on port 110. If you happen to have POP2 (older and probably not) it will want port 109.

You obviously are good to go for HTTP on port 80. You might try some other things like FTP which will work if you can use ports 20/21.

There may be some sort of config dll you have to tweak or something. Not sure.

Maybe if you are still having problems, this reply will get some brain cells churning with some folks on here who do use ICS.

Ami-I'm having the same problem and haven't figured it out as yet but do have a "workaround" that might/might not be to your liking. I do have a Hotmail account (or I suppose any Internet email account should do same) where I can check Pop mail and can do so there from the client computer. But I will continue to think/work on this and if come up with some solution-will post. I'd like to be able to receive mail directly on client w/o bringing Hotmail into the picture, too.

Ami - I have your answer (I believe) on ICS E-Mail. It has to do with your POP account, ie mail.swbell.net. Try replacing that with the IP address of the POP server. Go to dos and ping your pop address ( ie "ping mail.swbell.net "). It will return an IP address. Replace your text POP address in mail options with the IP address and it should work.

Something to do with the way some mail servers hide rerouting.
