    Guys,

Strangely a mystery blank folder has appeared under the 'my computer' tree on my home PC - it has no name but has a 'plus' expander symbol next to it which wont expand. The folder wont open and has no properties ?? I can rename it but havent.

Can I delete it somehow ?

This is a complete mystery to me and has appeared 'overnight'.

    Mick,

Can you right-click on the folder and select delete? If not, try going into SAFE mode and delete it from there. Hard to say why it showed up.

If it won'i go away ...
Reboot to DOS or from a Floppy.
    Type
    DIR C: /p
and write down the exact folder name eg xxxxxx
    type
    deltree /y xxxxxx
    regards

    Merlin,

I must have done something wrong - its still there !!???

    I named the folder ABC

I typed in DIR C: /p ( I left a space here and typed in ABC)

Got an error message to many parameters.

So typed in DIR C: /p then pressed enter.

Got a long list of folders etc, finally got the command line for c:>

So typed in deltree y/ ABC and then pressed enter.

Got back to desktop and the blighter was still there ???

What did I do wrong ?

PS, How do you exit from DOS ?? I've typed in exit/end/finish etc, etc but I have to press my restart button each time to get out and re-boot.

    Merlin,

Ok so what have I done wrong ?? The folder has no name so I 'renamed' it ABC, it states its a system folder - ??

Your reply clearly states; deltree y/ xxxxx - I assume xxxx is the folder name so do I type this after DIR C:/ p xxxxx without pressing enter or what ??

Simple question mate - you can obviuosly tell i've ******* up somewhere so why the condescending reply ??

    Thanks,

    Mick

I do not understand why you are being abusive to someone who is trying to help you. I am not being condescending, but
simply asking you to read my post again.
You are not typing (or maybe not reading) what I posted.
Also, I do not think any of our board members would appreciate being addresses as "mate ".
    End of correspondence.

Merlin: don't be upset by the term "mate ". The guy is English and "mate" is used in much the same way as "buddy "( (also we Aussies do too)..Doesn't excuse his attitude tho.

    BTW Pomak249:
The post reads deltree /Y xxxx, not deltree Y/ xxxx...

    Guys,

Whether you like it or not the reply was condescending, I have read Merlins post again and ' as far as I can see , i've done as he suggested (ok /y xxxx is a mistake with MY POST NOT WHAT I ACTUALLY DID) - I can see now that you assume i typed in y/ instead of /y, a little prompt wouldnt have gone amiss. Anyway I tried your tip and its still there. ???

And yes - mate is a term of endearment not rudeness !!

    Thanks,

    POMAK

    End of post !!?
