    hello All,
I am running XP-home for about three weeks and really like it.
happiness is the upgrade from ME!

    2 questions:

how can I move my shared documents folder from drive c: to drive d: (d is another partition on my h/d) and still have it contain all its attributes?

How do I assign drive letters to directories.
    ie mydir/ = drive h: ?

thanks up front for any help.

    joste

    Hi Joste

    1. Download Tweakui XP from Microsoft. In the left hand pane of Tweakui My Computer > Special Folders. In the right hand pane drop down list highlight Shared Documents > change location.

    2. You cannot assign drive letters as such to directories, but you can rename them as you wish. Right click on directory > rename and type in the name you want, e.g. drive H. Just remember that this is not a drive, but just a folder.

    Yo Pete,
thanks for the link and info about my-doc folder.
    it was very helpful.

Regarding drive assignments in XP I am able to do this with a small script:

    subst r: c:\apps\zips
    subst w: c:\windows
    subst p: c:\programs\down\sort\pix
    subst s: c:\saves\mydir\stuff
    subst x: c:\extract
    subst t: c:\saves\text
    @ECHO OFF

I named the script addrives.bat and double click, or put it in the startup folder. This gives me drive assignments for frequently used folders. They do actually appear as drive:\ in folder lists. The main problem is that it uses the command line which has limitations regarding dir-name length etc. That's why I was wondering if there was a way to do this within windows XP.
