Hello: we have an HP 820 CSE using #45 cartridge. Tonite the cartridge holder has taken to slamming to the opposite side of the guide rail, when turning on the printer. Is there a fix or definition of the problem? This hooked to a newish XP machine. Thank you.

Yes sir - you hit the jackpot. I had the exact same problem on the exact same printer about 3 or 4 years ago. Gald to report, its still in service today. Found the solution on HP's website in FAQ's specific to that printer. Makes one hell of a slamming noise doesn't it?

    ;)

Found FAQs, this issue not in them

Thank you for reply, Rockster. I went to the HP 820Cse FAQ website below

    http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/docume...XGR5UNZQ?reg=na&cc=us&docName=bpd09174&lc=en&

which is titled "How to fix the blinking lights on 820 series printers "

and they show the blinking lights sequence the printer shows, that is simultaneous blinking of both lights. But the issue of the carriage crashing all the way to the (left) is not addressed. I looked for loose pieces of paper, took the printer case off, cleaned contacts on both the carriage and the cartridges, nothing seems wrong.

Since you had this problem, my guess is HP changed its website. Can you direct me to the exact page you found, or (since it probably is gone) its exact title?

This isn't a driver issue, unless something has been locked in the printer ROM, since this occurs even if the printer is physically isolated, that is the cable to the PC is disconnected.

    Thank you.
