Has anyone successfully connected to a Mac computer via a crossover ethernet cable? I am trying to accomplish this. The Mac is my primary computer; I am less familiar with the PC (running Windows ME). The PC IP is 192.168.0.7; the Mac IP is 192.168.0.5. The computers can ping each other, but neither will log in to the other. The Mac has OS X 10.2, which features SMB (SAMBA) for networking with Windows PCs.

Don't everybody leap in all at once.

OK, I don't know nothing about MACs, OX, or Samba, but if you're using a cross-over cable, one could suspect that you want to do a one time or infrequent transfer of files from one machine to another.

Because they're both talking TCP/IP, you could set up an FTP server on the PC and use an FTP client on the MAC to accomplish the file transfers.

    Click on this!

Thanks for the reply. I now have the cable connection established but will try to add FTP also.
