    Hi guys,

On boot up my system reports my P3 (coppermine) 850 as a 200mhz, this doesnt affect performance and the CPU works fine - its (you will all know) just annoying.

My MoBo is an MS (Microstar) 6156 with BX440 chipset running on Win98se - i've heard a bios flash may fix the error but I dont wish to delve into that area (fear is a terrrible thing).

Is there anyway of retyping the info so it appears correctly on the start up screen ? ie, a registry key or config setting ? I guess this info sits somewhere in my system settings but have no idea where.

    Just a thought,

    Mick

    You are not alone:

    CAUSE
This issue occurs because Windows 95 and Windows 98 are not able to correctly identify an Intel Pentium III or Celeron CPU.

    RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, identify your CPU by visually inspecting it, or by viewing the documentation included with your computer.

    Steve,

Thanks - I know its def a P3 850 as I put it in myself, all utilities (SiSoft etc) report it correctly as well.

Guess i'll just live with it.

Most recent BIOS update for that motherboard I can find is version 1.6. It adds support for a P3 (coppermine) 800mhz CPU. So you may be out of luck even with a BIOS ugrade.

    Matt,

Thanks - MoBo should support up to an 866 according to MSI, system runs ok with proper 3d marks for an 850, guess i'll just live with the annoyance.
