    Carole,

Ifyou are using Outlook Express 6 go Tools > Options > Spelling and check 'Always check spelling before sending' - it is not turned on by default.

By default OE does not come with a spell checker. You have to have MS Office or Works installed for this to be an option. If you have one of these programs, install it. If not use the link that Picard posted.

    Sunny,

You are oh so right :)

Can't remember when I was last without Office and Works - use 'em both so the question of spellchecker in OE has never been more than I posted.

    Sorry, Carole :(

However , if you want a spell checker for IE - for spell checking any forms you fill in - like these posts, then look no further than IeSpell http://www.iespell.com/download.php

    messenger pop ups

:) I don't know what balloon tips are, what I am getting is a pop up in a white box w/ blue top strip that says Messenge Service in it. The messages are about messenger pop ups usually. I downloaded a pop up disabler which has basically worked for regular ad pop ups. I tried to uninstall this messenger svc but was told there are other things using parts of it so I could not uninstall it. SOrry for my beginner language, but I missed the computer craze by a few years! I know enought to get by (I think!). And many thanks again for the help w/ the spell check!

This should disable the Messenger Service.

    Click Start then Control Panel
    Click Performance and Maintenance
    and select Administrative Tools
    Double click Services.
Scroll down to Messenger and double click on it
to open the Messenger Properties window.
    In Service status: click Stop
In the Startup typy: dropdown menu select Disable and click Apply
    and OK.

I know what you mean Pete, it is hard to remember OE without a spell checker when you have had Office for so long :)
I use IE Spell too and love it ;)

If you use Office 97 with XP and OE, there is a patch that must be applied.

The spell checker for Outlook Express requires a Microsoft
word processing program. The csapi3t1.dll file is necessary
to get Office Pro 97 to be the spell checker.

    Search the web for csapi3t1.dll

    csapi3t1.dll

    HI, Ray H
Just want to make sure I understand about the spell check I installed at the geocities site i got from Picard. Do I need to install this patch you mention? I mean, the spell check seems to be working, but, what do I know really? Just a novice. If you say it needs to be installed after the geocities thing, I will definitely do it!But just want to make sure first and then I will do it. PLMK
Many thanks again for everyones help!!!
